Our funding will partially go to a foundation that rehabilitates vervet monkeys like this little guy!

Thanks to your help, we were recently able to send $4,000 to Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA) to assist in the care and rescue of primates affected by wildlife trafficking in Africa. These grants came from our Wildlife Emergency Fund (WEF).

One of PASA’s partners, the Vervet Monkey Foundation (VMF) in South Africa, is in need of a new truck as theirs recently broke beyond repair. A truck is vital to the transportation of injured and confiscated monkeys, and essential supplies such as food and medication. Our funding will assist VMF in purchasing a new truck.

Another PASA member, Limbe Wildlife Centre (LMC) in Cameroon, recently experienced the collapse of a protective wall that guards the center from flooding. A portion of the WEF grant will be used to repair the wall, ensuring LMC’s primates remain safe and the center can continue to rehabilitate confiscated animals in the future.

Due to challenges brought on by the pandemic, these facilities have seen a dramatic reduction in income and been forced to suspend funds for anything beyond core expenses like food and veterinary treatments. Our funding will help supplement the cost of other critical needs, ensuring the continued success of these centers.

The WEF provides emergency support to address urgent threats to wildlife. It is made possible through the sale of collectible animal buttons, which are created by our volunteers and sold throughout the Zoo.
