Frequent hand-washing is an easy way to help keep yourself and your community healthy.

May 13 update: The Zoo will reopen to the general public on Saturday, May 23 with new guidelines in place.

March 16 update: In light of new recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) over the weekend, the Zoo will close to the public beginning on Wednesday, March 18 and remain closed until further notice. Animal care staff and other essential personnel will still report to work and perform a “deep clean” of the facility.

Treetop Trek will remain open as this outdoor, open-air experience is in compliance with the CDC’s recommendation to prevent gatherings of more than 50 people.

March 13 update: At Brevard Zoo, the wellness and safety of our guests, staff, volunteers and animals is our top priority. As a facility accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, we are used to meeting and exceeding rigorous standards. During this challenging time, we are closely following the latest COVID-19 updates and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida Department of Health in Brevard County and other authorities.

We have enhanced our sanitation routine over the past several weeks, and all open-air areas of the Zoo remain open. However, beginning on Monday, March 16, the following Zoo areas and experiences will not be available until further notice out of an abundance of caution:

  • Wildlife Detective Training Academy
  • Paws On Petting Zone
  • Animal feedings

Zoo leaders are in constant communication, and we are prepared to take additional precautions, which could include a temporary closure of the entire Zoo, as this situation develops. Updates will be posted on this page, our homepage and our social media channels.

Here are some simple steps you can take to keep yourself and others healthy:

  • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds at a time. As always, we encourage you to make use of the hand-washing stations located in Paws On and Lands of Change: Australia and Beyond, and the hand sanitizer pumps in Expedition Africa, Wild Florida, Rainforest Revealed and at our dining venues.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, then dispose of the tissue and wash your hands
  • Stay home if you are presenting symptoms
  • Purchase your tickets online rather than at the ticket booth to minimize contact with communal surfaces
