
Have you seen all the new faces in our Kangaroo Walkabout?
Many new faces have been hopping through our recently renovated Kangaroo Walkabout! We’ve welcomed a new Western grey kangaroo to our mob, an additional Reeve’s muntjac and two red-necked wallabies – a brand-new species for our Zoo. Get to know these newbies below.
Casper
Species: Western grey kangaroo
Sex: Male
Age: 4 years old
Favorite foods: Willow, elm and mulberry browse, pear and crabapples
Personality: Casper is on the quieter side but enjoys spending time with his fellow ‘roos.
Favorite enrichment: Digging in new substrates
Skills: Can climb on a scale for voluntary weights
Extra tidbits: Casper is joining fellow male grey kangaroos Felix, Melbourne and Sterling in the Kangaroo Walkabout!
Archer
Species: Red-necked wallaby
Sex: Male
Age: 4 years old
Favorite foods: Grain, peanuts and grapes
Personality: Archer spends plenty of time socializing with his habitat mates but can be shy around his keepers. He also has a very calm and laidback personality.
Favorite enrichment: Anything involving food
Skills: He is great at making friends!
Extra tidbits: Archer was the first red-necked wallaby we’ve welcomed to the Zoo.
Bubba Blue
Species: Red-necked Wallaby
Sex: Male
Age: 1 year old
Favorite foods: Cheerios and peanut butter
Personality: Bubba Blue is the boldest of this new group. He warms up quickly to new things and people. Even if he’s a bit hesitant at first, his curiosity usually gets the better of him.
Favorite enrichment: Puzzle feeders
Skills: Bubba Blue is a training champion. He can target, voluntarily enter a secure carrier and climb onto a scale for voluntary weights.
Extra tidbits: Bubba Blue and Archer warmed up to each other right away and have been inseparable since.
Ozzy
Species: Reeves’s Muntjac or Chinese Muntjac
Sex: Female
Age: 9 months old
Favorite foods: Peanuts, melons and grapes
Personality: Very curious and warming up quickly to her new home
Favorite enrichment: Any novel food items! She loves munching on large browse leaves and whole peanuts!
Skills: She has begun working on training sessions with her keepers.
Extra tidbits: Ozzy will be a friend for resident muntjacs Kirby and Harriet. Kirby and Ozzy may also choose to become a breeding pair.
