Linda is already showing off her spunky side.
Running by to share some big news! We’ve welcomed a new female ostrich to our Expedition Africa loop. Linda is now calling our Zoo home, and she will be joining our resident male ostrich, Little Foot. Ostriches are highly social birds, so we are very excited to introduce a new flock member to Little Foot, a decision that will greatly impact his wellbeing in a positive way. This move will also allow the duo to live in a more natural way, as there’s usually one dominant male and several females and offspring in a flock.
Being only four months old, Linda still has some growing up to do! Linda is still living behind the scenes in our Expedition Africa Barn. However, when the female is older and larger, she will officially be introduced to Little Foot and make her way onto our veldt. Here, you will be able to see Linda and Little Foot go about their daily routine, most often foraging for food and preening their feathers. You may even be able to catch a training session or two with their keepers.
We also expect to see breeding behaviors from Little Foot, including showing off some dance moves during a courtship dance. Who knows – we may even have some chicks in the future!
So far, Linda has shown off a very silly and curious personality. Our team is excited to watch this girl grow up, and we can’t wait for you to meet the new pair, as well. Make sure to keep an eye out for their veldt debut!
