Jess and Marv

Marv is currently resting in his recovery pool while he receives treatment.

We have a marvelous new patient to introduce you to! Marv, a nearly 300-pound adult male loggerhead, recently arrived at our Zoo’s Sea Turtle Healing Center. Marv was found lethargic and washed ashore in Cocoa Beach by the Sea Turtle Preservation Society. Members of our L3 Harris Animal Care Center were ready to accept Marv after he was transported from his beach location.

This large sea turtle was given a thorough intake assessment upon arrival. He has an old carapace wound and continues to struggle with lethargy, muscle atrophy and inappetence. He’s been put on a course of anti-inflammatory medication and will receive fluid therapy. We are still waiting for pending test results to establish a full, comprehensive treatment plan.

As a reproductive size male, Mavr is estimated to be between 30 to 50 years old. There is a good chance this big boy is a grandfather.

We will continue to share behind-the-scenes updates on Marv’s rehabilitation journey with us. Stay tuned to our social media channels for more updates on this big guy.
