Razi has been settling in well in his new home!
Join us in welcoming a new male black and white colobus monkey to our Zoo, 16-year-old Razi!
After welcoming sisters Naia and Zuba to our Zoo earlier this year, we are thrilled to finally have this trio together. Razi came to us from Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, NY as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s Species Survival Plan. We hope that this group will help contribute to a growing population of these incredible primates in human care, helping safeguard their population and act as ambassadors for their native counterparts.
Razi has been settling in well in his Expedition Africa habitat and is already quite fond of his new habitat mates. He showed interest in the girls as soon as he arrived, and the three have been getting along well.
He has also already warmed up to his new animal care team.
“Razi took to us nearly right away,” said Expedition Africa area supervisor Alyssa. “He was interested in doing training behaviors with us within an hour after he arrived.”
So far Razi has been spending his time exploring his new home and interacting with various enrichment items. He’s also very keen on snack time.
Getting to know all three of these individuals has been incredibly exciting for our keepers.
“They are so different than other species of primate that we have here at the Zoo,” noted Alyssa. “Everything they do, except alarm calling and jumping, is very subtle!”
We are excited to continue growing our relationship with Naia, Zuba and Razi, and we hope you swing by to meet them soon!
