You may recall that in 2019, one of the organizations that we sent funding to through our Quarters for Conservation (Q4C) program was International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF). This UK-based nonprofit is dedicated to the conservation, care and protection of otters in Europe and around the world.
In their grant application, IOSF pledged to use their Q4C funding for community outreach projects to spread public awareness of otters and their importance to ecosystems worldwide. And that they did!
Thanks in part to the $7,747.50 you helped us raise for them through visiting the Zoo, the organization conducted educational training workshops for children around the world and established a network of “otter clubs” to inspire long-term admiration for the species. Our Q4C funding went toward education materials, travel expenses and field visits to make these programs possible in Guyana, Laos, Nepal and the UK. Even more clubs and workshops are in the works!
Our grants are funded by income from guest admission and membership sales, which have been stunted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it’s purchasing a membership, granting a wish, becoming an Animal Guardian or simply spreading the word, you are instrumental in our ability to fund critically important conservation projects like IOSF’s.
