Modernizing Our Lagoon Quest Program

After almost 20 years, our Lagoon Quest program needed an update to be an even better resource for local teachers and modernize it for today’s students. Thanks to a grant from Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, our Education staff were able to team up with six local teachers to do so.

Deborah and Ajabu, our klipspringer pair, have welcomed their seventh offspring at our Zoo! The young male klipspringer is now doing well, but this baby’s first few days started off on unsure footing.

Welcome, George! He’s currently acclimating in a behind-the-scenes space for now as he gets to know his new home and animal care team – but we’ll let you know on our social media channels once he starts exploring our Africa habitats.

Plastic Pollution Has Detrimental Effects on Young Sea Turtles

We follow the cases of three young sea turtle patients who battled with plastic pollution. While two did not make it, one juvenile turtle is on her way to making an amazing recovery.

If you’ve visited our Zoo over the last few weeks, you may have noticed quite the buzz of bees, especially around our trash cans. We are encouraging these bees to avoid our main pathways by offering alternative feeding locations in different areas around the Zoo.

We will be releasing a juvenile green sea turtle Horchata back to the ocean! This sea turtle had a 4-month recovery with us during which Horchata passed multiple pieces of plastic.
