Harbor the loggerhead sea turtle

Harbor’s appearance has changed dramatically since being in our care!

EDITOR’S NOTE: A public release for Harbor was canceled as our state prepares for Hurricane Milton. Harbor went home to the ocean on Monday, Oct. 7. We wish you well, Harbor!

Harbor the adult loggerhead sea turtle is returning to her ocean home after a two-month stay at our Sea Turtle Healing Center. This 170-pound loggerhead made social media waves after being found on the beach in August and was transported by the Sea Turtle Preservation Society.

We are proud to have given Harbor superb turtle care.

Harbor’s appearance has transformed dramatically since being in our care. Harbor arrived completely encrusted by barnacles and marine leeches. In her debilitated state, she was very lethargic and anemic. However, after two months of attentive care, including antibiotics and nutritional support, this now-healthy turtle is ready to return to the water.

During her stay with us, Harbor enjoyed interacting with her special enrichment items designed to withstand her strong jaws. These jaws are designed to crush her favorite foods like crabs, clams and mollusks, of which she was treated to aplenty.
