Colin (right) and Penelope (left) are settling in well.
Our flock has grown! We recently welcomed two monk parakeets and four ring-necked parakeets to our Lorikeet Landing aviary. The group arrived in May and has been settling in well in their new homes.
Unfortunately, these parakeets came to us after they were confiscated by law enforcement from a hoarding situation. While they arrived in good physical condition, they were a bit nervous around people. Luckily, their animal care team has been putting in ample time getting to know the flock, and they are warming up quickly to their new keepers and habitat mates.

Our ring-necked parakeets also boast beautiful blue and green feathers.
Penelope and Colin the monk parakeets, named after the beloved couple in the Bridgerton series, are a bonded pair and enjoy spending quality time together. George and Charlotte the ring-necked parakeets are a mated pair that arrived with their two chicks, Cressida and Sophie. The quad also took on royally inspired names from the series. Cressida and Sophia arrived as tiny chicks and have since fledged the nest and are stretching their wings exploring their new home.
While we’ve loved getting to know this royal flock, we know these birds do not make good pets for most people who acquire them. Parrots require a lot of attention, special diets, intensive care, specialist veterinarians and tend to live a very long time. Without their needs being met, they may become bored and exhibit signs of distress. It’s important to do ample research before adopting any pet. Also, be sure to understand where the pet came from and never take an animal from its natural home.
Make sure to fly by our aviaries to observe these beautiful blue-green birds!
