Itinerary

Oct. 21, San Jose: Arrive at San Jose International Airport and transfer to the Real InterContinental Hotel. Enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel with special guest speaker Jack Donnelly, author of Costa Rica: Folk Culture, Traditions and Cuisine.

Oct. 22, Tortuguero National Park: After breakfast, transfer via land and boat to Tortuguero National Park, then enjoy a late afternoon safari by boat through its canals. View tropical birds flocking back and forth to their nesting areas at sunset before checking into the Pachira Lodge for the next two nights.

Oct. 23, Tortuguero National Park: Take an early morning boat tour through Tortuguero’s rainforest and, in the afternoon, explore the private trails of Pachira, rich in flora and fauna.

Oct. 24, La Paz/Arenal: Board a chartered flight bound for San Jose and La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Go on a behind-the-scenes tour of a nature reserve and learn about its various rescued animals. In the late afternoon, transfer to Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort in Arenal where you’ll spend the next two nights.

Oct. 25, Arenal: After breakfast, choose a chartered activity (one per person) from the following list: safari float rafting Peñas Blancas River; white water rafting La Balsa River; canopy zip line; horseback riding to Arenal Volcano or La Fortuna Waterfall; hanging bridges over the rainforest; hike Arenal Volcano National Park. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the hot springs or pamper yourself with an optional spa treatment.

Oct. 26, Macaw Sanctuary/Manuel Antonio National Park: Travel to the Macaw Rescue & Sanctuary at El Manantial, a wildlife conservation facility working to save and protect the endangered native birds of Costa Rica. At El Manantial, you’ll also see other rescues, including jaguars and spider monkeys. Enjoy a late lunch and amazing views at Villa Caletas, perched 1,150 feet above the Pacific coast, en route to Manuel Antonio. Lodging for the next two nights is at Hotel Parador Resort and Spa.

Oct. 27, Manuel Antonio National Park/Damas Island Estuary: In the morning, observe sloths and monkeys traveling through the tree canopy of Manuel Antonio National Park, an exotic, biodiverse tropical rainforest. In the afternoon, travel by boat or kayak to learn about the fascinating ecosystem of the mangroves at Damas Island Estuary. See exotic flora and fauna including caimans, sloths, crocodiles, boas, white-faced monkeys, egrets and more. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at El Parador.

Oct. 28, San Jose: Transfer to the airport for your departing flight from Costa Rica.
