Fallow Deer Odocoileus virginianus
Fallow deer are not native to Florida. This species originates from Europe, but fallow deer were introduced to a number of countries, including the United States. Fallow deer are considered invasive as they compete with native species like white-tailed deer for food.
ORIGIN:
Natural range in southern European regions, Asia Minor, along the Mediterranean Sea, and possibly in northern Africa and Ethiopia.
HABITAT:
Prefer old, deciduous, broad-leaf forests of varying densities interspersed with grassy areas, but they are also found in mixed forests, broad-leaf forests, subalpine vegetation, grasslands, woodlands, low mountains, scrublands, and savanna.

66 to 176 lbs

DIET:
Vegetation, usually grasses, mast, and browse.
PREDATORS:
Humans and large predators in the areas in which they occur.
NATURAL DEFENSES:

Gestation period of 33 to 35 weeks
