Project Holocene — Endangered Species Revealed

Backlit artwork of green sea turtle by Russ Ronat

When we shine a light on species on the brink, we give them a chance to be seen and saved. This international art exhibition aims to share a message of conservation through these incredible animal paintings, helping build awareness around the importance of protecting biodiversity.

The paintings gradually illuminate, revealing detailed works of the animals. The images slowly appear and disappear as the fading effect is timed based on the endangered status of each species.

Project creator and artist Russell Ronat is originally from South Africa. He is a Denver-based contemporary artist and the creator of Project Holocene. It is his goal to draw and paint many endangered animals and show the beauty and fragility of many species in his drawings, illuminated paintings and video work.
