Your Support Can Help Our Florida Black Bears

Did You Know? In 2025, East Coast Zoological Foundation’s Black Bear Rehabilitation Center at Brevard Zoo opened as an expansive, behind-the-scenes space. Affectionatley known as Brody Bear’s Rescue and Rehab, this area allows us to care for up to 15 cubs at a time.

In less than one year, we have rehabilitated and released 17 bears and we have already accepted several cubs in 2026.

With your support, we can care for sick, injured and orphaned bear cubs for years to come.

$25 = one day of apples for all the bears
$50 = one week of peanuts for all the bears
$75 = one week of kibble for one rehab bear cub
$100 = supplies for a new, comfy hammock

Meet John Bear

The moment yearling cub Jon Bear arrived at our Zoo, it was clear he needed our help. Weighing just 20 pounds, this cub was emaciated, anemic and missing patches of his fur, being one of the most tragic cases we’ve taken in so far. The yearling cub’s body was also laden with ticks and internal parasites.

After months of specialized care and time in our outdoor rehab habitat, he was successfully released just five months later—gaining over 100 pounds.

Follow Our Journey

Our 3,500 square foot facility incorporates natural structures and foliage that mimic the bears’ natural habitat and encourages them to practice their natural behaviors. This curated environment will teach the bear cubs how to care for themselves once they are released back into their natural range.
