Birds of A Feather
Students explore bird anatomy through biofact examinations and encounters with bird species ambassadors throughout the Zoo. This immersive experience blends real scientific practice—like observing flamingo behavior using an ethogram—with interactive challenges such as matching aviary residents to their specialized beak shapes and diets.

Classification Expedition
In this workshop, students become wildlife scientists as they sort real biofacts—including bones, skins, shells, eggs and feathers—to classify animals according to the Linnaean system and then go on a Zoo-wide expedition to locate and observe specific animals in their habitats.

Hollows Biodiversity Survey (Offsite at Hundred Acre Hollows)
Join us for a day of discovery and inquiry-based learning at the Hundred Acre Hollows EEL Sanctuary. Students participate in citizen science research by identifying, categorizing, photographing and reporting plants and animals to iNaturalist.

SAFE Animals Safari
Put on your detective hat and solve a series of mysteries to help Save Animals From Extinction! Team-based riddles and scientific puzzles lead students throughout the Zoo to uncover animals involved in the AZA’s SAFE program, connecting biodiversity and conservation in an exciting, hands-on adventure.

Wild About Wetlands
From the Everglades to the Okefenokee, Florida is one of the most biodiverse wetlands ecosystems in the world. Students will practice important scientific fieldwork skills as they kayak the Zoo’s Wild Florida Wetlands, investigate microscopic pond creatures, and interact with some of the larger animals that thrive in swamps, marshes and estuaries.

Lagoon Quest (Offsite at Rotary Park Suntree)
Participate in a citizen science field study monitoring the health and biodiversity of the Indian River Lagoon estuary. Working as a team, students will wade in the shallows to collect, identify and release a variety of marine organisms. They will also use scientific tools and procedures to conduct water quality tests.
