The grant goes towards building the new Animal Care Center currently under construction. This new, state-of-the-art veterinary facility is 9,500-square-foot and will serve more than 560 animals representing 170 different species at the Zoo.The new facility to be named the Harris Corporation Animal Care Center will have x-ray, treatment and intensive care rooms; a lab and a pharmacy; and a large surgery suite with adjacent "scrub" facilities and offices. It also will house a commissary to support the diet and nutrition needs of the Zoo's residents, and will enhance ongoing research and conservation efforts.
