Date admitted: May 30, 2021
Stranding location: Indian River, south end of Rockledge Drive
Status: In treatment
Admission notes: This larger juvenile green sea turtle arrived on May 30 with a recent open fracture to the rear end of the shell. Fortunately, the injury did not penetrate the body cavity and does not appear to interact with the sea turtle’s spine. Upon arrival, Pickles also had gas in their GI, causing buoyancy issues.
June 7, 2021: Pickles was taken for a CT scan last week to learn more about their carapace fracture, and the results are pending. This sea turtle has good mobility in their rear flippers and tail. Pickles is eating and passing fecal regularly.
