Date admitted: May 30, 2019
Stranding location: Jetty Park Fishing Pier
Status: In treatment
Admission notes: This juvenile green sea turtle came to us from Jetty Park Fishing Pier on Thursday, May 30. Jetty arrived with a hook in their mouth, but overall good body condition.
August 23, 2019: Jetty came out for their monthly workup! They have gained weight and their PCV is looking great. We still do not know why this turtle is not using their front flipper.
August 15, 2019: This turtle was progressing very well with healing their front left flipper wound, but now they are refusing to use their front right flipper. Radiographs show no breaks, Jetty still has a great range of motion and there is no inflammation, so a cause is still unknown.
August 1, 2019: Jetty is still healing from the old fish hook, but is clinically doing great!
July 26, 2019: Jetty was scheduled to have a minor surgery on an old fishing hook injury July 24, but upon further inspection, veterinary staff decided it was not necessary. The wound is healing nicely and they are receiving cold laser therapy.
July 18, 2019: Jetty’s old hook wound in their front right flipper has not been healing properly, so they will be undergoing a quick procedure to open the pocket to prevent an abscess from forming. They are also getting daily laser treatment for this wound.
July 15, 2019: This turtle continues to get laser therapy on their left front flipper.
July 5, 2019: Jetty is still eating and has lots of spunk. Unfortunately, they are still recovering from another fish hook wound on the front left flipper, so we will continue to monitor that.
June 21, 2019: Jetty started eating regularly! So much so that we even bumped up the amount of lettuce given to them.
June 13, 2019: Jetty has finished receiving fluids and will hopefully soon be taken off their antibiotics. This turtle started eating the other day and really enjoys algae!
