Name: Emmentaler; “Emme”
Date admitted: June 18, 2021
Stranding location: Sand Piper Towers, South Patrick Shores
Status: In treatment
Admission notes: This small juvenile green sea turtle arrived on June 18 after being caught during a population study by a biologist. It is normal for samples of scute, skin and blood to be taken from these individuals during studies. The biologist had taken a sample from the carapace of a scute for DNA studies and became concerned that too much was biopsied from the location. The sea turtle was brought to us to heal up the small site in hopes to prevent any infections that Emme could get in the wild. The injury is minor, and we think that for the time being, Emme is enjoying the safe environment, easy food and company of their roommate, Blue.
