2014 Special Events
March 15 & 16
In honor of our 20th birthday milestone, the Zoo is opening a new major exhibit featuring meerkats. In 1984, a small group of people with a big dream began building a zoo for Brevard County. Local industry, community leaders and everyday people joined together to raise an initial $3.5 million to build the Zoo. With resources in hand, Zoo founders recruited more than 16,000 volunteers to undertake the World’s Largest Community Build. With hammer and nails at the ready, the local community began a 16-week construction project to make the dream a reality.
It is the Zoo’s vision to bring back the community-wide excitement and engagement that defined the original creation of Brevard Zoo so that it can harness that energy to power the next 20 years of the Zoo’s growth.
Come join in the festivities! There is fun for the whole family. Come out and welcome the newest additions to the Brevard Zoo family!

Endangered Species Day celebrates our nation's commitment to protecting wildlife on the brink of extinction. It provides a fun opportunity for Brevard Zoo guests to learn about the importance of protecting endangered species. It also allows us to share the wide variety of actions that we can take to help protect our nation's wildlife, including building backyard wildlife habitats and supporting local efforts to clean up rivers, parks and other natural areas. Brevard Zoo will provide endangered species' animal keeper talks, animal enrichments, as well as arts and crafts for guests. Mark your calendars and head to the Zoo May 16 through 18 to help show your support for conservation and endangered species.
