Green sea turtle Bubble Gum

The Sea Turtle Healing Center cares for sick or injured sea turtles found primarily along the nearby Florida coast. While this facility is not open to the public, the effects of its work impact local sea turtle populations. An in-county facility means a shorter drive for patients, resulting in less stress and quicker treatment for distressed turtles.

Name: Bubble Gum

Species: Green

Date admitted: February 4, 2022

Stranding location: New Smyrna Beach

Status: Transferred

Admission notes: This juvenile green sea turtle stranded in New Smyrna Beach on February 3. They spent the evening with the Volusia Marine Science Center and were transported to us the next day to begin their rehabilitation journey. Bubble Gum has a moderate about of FP tumors and is quite lethargic. They are now in a shallow pool resting and have since started to eat. We will schedule a CT scan soon to check for internal FP nodules.

February 22, 2022: Bubble Gum was transferred to The Turtle Hospital in Marathon at the request of FWC to make room for local stranded turtles.
