Need a place to cool off on a hot Florida day? Looking for a safe place for your little ones to learn hands-on? When you walk into the Zoo, take a right into Paws On and immerse your family in a world of fun!
AQUARIUM & TOUCH TANK
Have personal encounters with animals found in our very own Indian River Lagoon! “Meet” massive sheepshead, tarpon and mullet, and feed stingrays in our 20,000-gallon aquarium. Then head over to the Touch Tank to get hands-on with hermit crabs, sea cucumbers and more!
INDIAN RIVER PLAY LAGOON
Don’t forget your bathing suit! Children of all ages are invited to cool off in up to 18 inches of water in the Indian River Play Lagoon. This play space includes a “dump tank” and mangrove forest. There is also a water area created especially for younger guests, which features shallower water and a bubbling manatee sculpture.
SEASIDE COVE & SEA TURTLE BEACH
Play on a kid-sized shrimping boat, slide into a whale’s stomach and learn all about the sea turtles that we share our water with at this fun play space!
Ever wanted to pet an alpaca? What about a goat? All members of the family will love our Petting Zone, where you can have hands-on experiences with all kinds of animals! Depending on the time of the day, you may see a giant tortoise, goats, alpacas, armadillos, Patagonian cavies and chickens.
GOPHER TORTOISE INN
Make yourself at home in our larger-than-life playground! Navigate an underground burrow, enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Zoo from a scrub-jay nest and create an “animal home” of your own with palmetto fronds, bamboo stalks, ropes and a tarp.
WILDLIFE DETECTIVE TRAINING ACADEMY
Don’t forget about the Zoo’s indoor play area! Unwind in our 1,800-square-feet of air-conditioned space, dig up animal artifacts in a giant sandbox, care for plush patients in an “animal hospital” and see a live video feed of the Zoo’s Animal Care Center. The WDTA is also home to over 40 animals, including chinchillas, snakes, lizards and tortoises!
