Our Visayan warty pig exhibit just opened Father's Day weekend. Many guests came out wearing mohawks both Saturday and Sunday. It was awfully warm, so the pigs were regularly lounging in the mud.

On May 21, a female Chilean pudu was born at Brevard Zoo. Since the Chilean pudu is the smallest of all deer species, she is currently about seven inches long and weighs about 2 pounds. At birth, she only weighted 475 grams.

In May, the Princess Royal (Princess Anne) presented one of the world’s top environmental awards – a Whitley Award - to Dr. Patricia Medici, of Brazil, for a project that uses tapirs as ambassadors for grassroots nature conservation.
